As the user progresses into their knowledge of Revit, it is critical to understand how the more advanced features of the application are used. Understanding how families are created and modified, and how to optimize the project templates are areas where a company can expand on the benefits of a BIM design application. While this book does not cover every aspect for customization of Revit, its focus is to provide information to the user about moving beyond the out-of-the-box features of the program, and help build a more realistic database. This book will cover creating hosted and non-hosted families. Using third party content will also be reviewed. Creating custom annotation entities such as light fixture and air terminal tags are topics for the book. Best practices and tips to help with templates and other features of the program that can be easily adjusted to maximize productivity will be the last topic. At the end of the day, if the user has the ability to fine-tune Revit MEP, and get the program to produce quality construction documents and meet the requirements of a BIM project, then everyone comes out ahead. Hopefully this book will help you meet that goal.
